Newsflash!

  1. Another human foot in a running shoe has just washed ashore - this time on the coast of Washington State. Is this one of theirs, or should B.C. be asking for its foot back?
  2. Another bizarre and tragic story from Washington State - a boy of ten has shot a woman dead. She was bending down to put something into her rucksack and he, thinking she was a bear, shot and killed her. What the hell is a ten year old doing with a high powered rifle? Apparently, it is allowed, if the child is accompanied by an adult. It reminds me of my time in Utah, living through a hunting season out in the boonies - I was given a bright orange vest and told NOT to venture outside without it. The week before a woman was shot dead in her garden, mistaken for a deer and a teenager shot and killed his father, by mistake. Still, I suppose we have to admit that the boy is a good shot.

The whole foot thing is so disturbing.

I followed Yukon Chatter Bug over...I love it here!! I'll be back, I want to read the rest of your posts. I got as far as the Air Canada rant and knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we could be soul mates. Or at least, members of the same "I hate AC" club!

Both the foot thing and the hunting thing are disturbing.

I can't imagine what the kids must feel like, having shot and killed a person by mistake, especially the lad who shot his own father. :(

Also disturbing is the fact that US greyhound owners (especially owners of fawn greyhounds) have to put orange jackets on their dogs before letting them out in their own yards in hunting season in some areas. I know of several that have been shot in mistake for deer.

Apparently it's illegal to shoot in a suburban setting or onto someone else's property, but apparently that doesn't stop some of these idiots.

In the final analysis, it all boils down to stupidity. Stupid is a system that allows children to carry guns. Stupid is a society that encourages its' citizens to carry guns. And stupid is a system that does not test its' citizens when they apply to get one of those guns.

How anyone can mistake a woman, a man, a dog, cow, car, tractor or anything for a deer or a bear is beyond me. A quick picture recognition test should be required. Stupid.

I feel sorry for the ones who are shot, not the shooter.

DM: They have now concluded that two of the feet belonged to the same person and that he disappeared following a bout of depression - no foul play suspected. Still, that leaves 4 feet unaccounted for.......

AvM: Hello! It is always great to welcome a new person. I am sure that I will have more to say about AC soon, since we are flying with them again at the end of the month. Great.

Jay: Well, you are supposed to only shoot male deer of a certain age, which necessitates counting the number of points on their antlers. Now, I am pretty sure that people and greyhounds do not have antlers, let alone the required number of points. Trigger happy hunters are a very dangerous breed.

Cortes: I will never understand the US or its right to bear arms or all of the people that vigorously defend these rights. The sad thing is that common sense is far from common but stupidity is rampant.

CA: I think we can safely say that there are some Canadians that are not nearly as "nice " as they are supposed to be. We have had shootings (mostly gang and therefore drug related), a man who went nuts and smashed in the heads of 9 people with a hammer, the guy who went crazy on a Greyhound bus and stabbed a man 40 times and then cut his head off and displayed it to all the other passengers. What is the world coming to?

Was Cortes on that bus, or a pissed of Mr Dbm ???

Truth is there are lunatics and/or sick people everywhere. Sadly, this era of political correctness and 'human rights' which often seem to take account only of the perpetrators' rights, doesn't allow us to take proper care of them.

Care in this case would probably mean an asylum - a word that has bad connotations, but actually means 'a place of sanctuary and safety'.

It might be an unpopular view, but I don't believe that 'care in the community' is working very well for us.

Turns out the guy who beheaded the bus passenger was even more disturbed than initially thought. While he was on the bus, before the RCMP could get to him, he started to eat his victim. At his first court hearing, the only coherent thing he said was "Kill me." Jay is absolutely right. This man needs help. While we may not feel sorry for him, since he did carry out a most heinous act, society should do all they can to help such mentally unstable individuals. Maybe if we helped them earlier, things like this would not happen. A few years ago, many mental institutions here in B.C. were closed down in favour of "care in the community." What care? These people just end up on the streets, usually turn to drugs, alcohol and crime and, in a very few cases, do some serious harm.
