Spoilt or Not?

Picture this:

Big open house, no doors (due to renovation issues, obviously), no heating except the gas fireplace. I walk in, ensconced in five layers of clothing (thermal underwear, thermal long-sleeved t-shirt, light fleece, heavy fleece and poofy down jacket - stick with me, this clothing inventory is important for the storyline). I sit down on the couch and wrap a duvet around me. I just can't get warm...........

Mr. DBM walks in:

Mr. DBM: "Are you cold?"
Me (in my most sarcastic voice, which I should point out is very sarcastic): "Just a tad."
Mr: DBM: "I suppose we could turn the fire on, but it seems a bit wasteful, since we have no doors and the heat will just dissipate into the hall and the rest of the house."
Me: "I suppose ........... but I am really cold, you know."

Pause......

Fluffy cat flounces in.

Mr. DBM: "Willow (or Tessie, either one gets the same treatment), sweetheart.....are you cold? Come on over here.....that's it........up on the cushy stool, come on, up you come little girl......."

Seconds later...... WHOOOOOSSSHHH! The fire is turned on and the cat settles down and takes a lovely, cosy, warm nap.

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with this picture?
Oh come on, they have thick fur coats and everything! I would have to slaughter several dangerous and almost extinct animals to get a fur coat like that. How come they get the fire and I don't!?!

So, spoilt or not? What do you think?

Poor helpless little creatures! You, on the other hand, can reach the switch!

How could you say so? Everyone knows that cats and greyhounds feel the cold quite dreadfully and need the best spot - and the best treatment - in the house! ROFL!

Cortes: They have paws - they can push the button to turn the fireplace on. They don't need to reach for a switch.

Jay: Now, greyhounds, I can see their need for warmth. They, afterall, have very thin coats. My cats, on the other hand, do not. You have seen them - they are completely covered in a thick mass of fur! How could they possibly ever get cold!?! Me? I am more like a greyhound.

Your cat is posing quite regally in that second image!

Oh, no, you don't. You're not getting me in the middle of a family argument :-)

Kala: Well, she is a little princess, isn't she?

Suldog: Ooops, sorry about that - but there really isn't any argument. Pets always come first.

Oh wouldn't they make lovely comfy furry slippers? Now, where is that shotgun... (just kidding, I love cats and dogs and almost all other animals so much that I don't even eat meat). Your cats are gorgeous and have it made!

The situation is much the same over here. No, not much the same as we do have doors and central heating and even an open fire. But our animals lead quite a priviliged life. Hubs actually often mentions that we should buy a third couch. Since the other two are almost always occupied by the furry bunch. And he's too nice (or stupid) to send them off the couch. I'm not so nice. Or just brighter ;-)

Your renovation works are taking forever aren't they? Poor you! Hang in there. I'm sure it will be beautiful. One day.

Carolina: Oh good, you are back - my readership has declined by about 50% since you left.....and I missed your witty, scintillating comments - such as making my gorgeous, beautiful, very, very loved cats into slippers. Are you crazy!?! Mittens would be much better.

I always said that you don't own a cat, they own you . . proof in point! Hey, at least they 'aided' in getting the fire lit.

Baino: You have a point - without those cats, the fire would never be turned on. And they keep my feet warm at night - well, until they get annoyed about the hump that has apppeared underneath them and move over.
