Macro Monday - Macro Mystery #9

I know, Macro Mysteries just annoy people, but I am going there again anyway. See, I got my macro lens out today, then I got my macro slider out, and my flash and my (actually Cortes' - thanks Cortes!) inverted 50mm lens and then I spent quite some time taking photos, thinking all the time that I really should set things up properly and perhaps find somewhere to set the camera where it wouldn't wobble all the time - that kind of really messes with a set of stacked photos.

Anyhoo, since I put all that effort into taking the photos, I figure you can put a little bit of effort into identifying them. They are all from the same source, just different parts.

Note the pollen dusting this structure.

This structure, from the same plant, produces the pollen.

Other hints - this plant was picked from my garden a couple of days ago and is very common in North America and Europe. Remember - this is Macro Monday and these are very macro!

Answers in the comments section please. And no, there are no prizes - sorry.

It's plants, innit?

Well, I'm sorry. I don't think I can be any more specific, except to say the first two must be a bud, probably from a tree, and the last one is seed pods. And very beautiful they all are too!

Fascinating closeups! Must be a flowering plant of some kind. An indoor plant, as it snowed here today.

The first photo looks like a top of a certain fruit.

I have NO idea. Some kind of bud seems likely, but what kind is impossible for me to say. Great shots, though.

Well, #3 must be pollen on the plant but I have no idea the name of the lovely thing...Have a grand day! Cathy

They're great macro shots. Some sort of cactus perhaps? Or an alien trying to get out of the space pod ;-)

How 'bout guessing a kiwi. LOL...that's as good as it gets from me. I see the 'fuzz' and think kiwi fruit.

Great macros but unless they are northern hemisphere UK/European plants then I wouldn't have a clue.

OK I'll hazard a guess - The first one looks like it's a tree bud but that's as far as I'll go with that one, the 2nd one maybe a type of witchhazel flower or Chimonanthus praecox?

OK, looks like you might need a couple of hints, although a couple of you are getting warm. Both are from the same plant and the important clue is the pollen seen on the structure in the first two photos. The third photo is the structure responsible for producing this pollen. The first two are not buds.

Does that help any?

Oh, and one more thing - the plant was picked from my garden a couple of days ago, and it is very common, in North Amercia and Europe / UK, so no excuses from you Europenas!

No idea at all...I tried thinking what would be in bloom now, but we are under about 2 feet of snow. I know at least some parts of the UK are into spring, but....nuts! The only possible guess I would have is a willow...
